2022 World Champion, Paralympic Archery Medalist, World Record Holder, “Armless Archer,” Dad
Matt Stutzman grew up on a farm in Iowa. He was born without arms and his parents, who adopted him, raised him in an unmodified home to prepare Matt for the unmodified world. Their philosophy was simple; Matt was permitted to try almost anything…if he could do it on his own. Years later the result is an extraordinary young man, a family man, who can do virtually anything with his feet.
Though many may argue otherwise, Matt considers his physical challenges to be advantageous to archery. Struggling to find work, Matt fist picked up a bow and arrow in his 20s to put food on the table for his family. He honed his archery skills and in a few short years found himself on the US Para Archery Team. He went on to become a Paralympic Silver Medalist and a world record holder. His necessary style of shooting with his leg provides great stability with the bow, and a lifetime of indescribable patience and tenacity are deeply ingrained characteristics that would serve any athlete, in any sport, well. In 2022, he clinched the World Champion title in Dubai.
Matt was featured in a Netflix film called Rising Phoenix about the Paralympic Games. He does everything with his feet, including drive and work on cars (his passion!) in his spare time. Dubbed The Armless Archer, Matt’s remarkable story has captured the attention of the media around the world. A natural public speaker, he regularly uses humor (at his own expense) and remarkable demonstrations of his foot skills, to engage audiences of all kinds who are left entertained, inspired and believing anything is possible.
During Matt’s talk, he does a demonstration of archery which is a showstopper.
